Der Freischütz, The Freeshooter: Short Synopsis

Max was a terrific forester, but his skills were down. To marry Agathe, he must win a hunting trial tomorrow. Caspar told him there was a bullet that would always hit and that he could get it if he went to a valley. After much deliberation, Max goes to the valley to the magic bullet.

Max uses magic bullets and is a great shot. The prey designated by Ottokar is a white dove. Max shoots the pigeon. Agathe and Caspar fall at the same time as the pigeon escapes. Caspar dies.

Ottokar asks Max about the mysterious incident. It comes to light that Max used a magic bullet. Ottokar orders Max banished from the estate. Interceded by the hermit, Max and Agathe are allowed to marry a year later.
